Approved Inspectors Ltd is one of the largest Building Regulation Specialists in the UK, with over 50 employees operating from four offices and dealing with over 6000 new projects each year. We provide a regulatory service for any type of building work from small domestic extensions through to large commercial building schemes with a nationwide coverage from our offices in Lancashire, Cheshire and the Midlands.

An exciting degree apprenticeship opportunity is available at our Shrewsbury Office, for someone aspiring to a career in building control.  It’s a great opportunity for those looking for an alternative start to their career, combining both degree study and work experience.

This is a full time role where the successful candidate will study towards the University College of Estate Management BSc (Hons) Building Control degree (study remotely 1 day per week) whilst gaining valuable on the job training and work experience (4 days per week).

Our Assistant Surveyors work closely with regional teams, supporting the day to day operations of the office.

Main Duties

  • Plan vetting and site inspections
  • Assisting with business development, networking and marketing
  • Ensuring existing client retention and building new relationships
  • Ensuring all company processes are adhered to
  • Completion of the UCEM Building Control Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship (typical duration 54 months)

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a motivated team player with a focus on service excellence and customer satisfaction.  You will have a keen interest in the construction industry and pursuing a career in building control.  You’ll be responsible for managing your own workload to complete your tasks.  Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

The entry requirement for the degree apprenticeship is 96 UCAS tariff points (or equivalent).  Apprentices also need the right to work in England, meet Education and Skills Funding Agency residency status requirements and be 18 years or over at the start of the apprenticeship.

The position is 37.5 hours per week, worked Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm and we are ideally looking for someone to work on projects in the West Midlands area.  A full driving license is essential.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full time role and salaries for this position start at £14,000 depending on experience.  The qualification is fully funded.

Our employees are entitled to 30 days annual leave (eight days to be reserved for the Company’s Christmas shut down) and the eight normal bank/public holidays. Our employees also benefit from a death in service life assurance scheme and a sick pay policy (one-month full pay and one month half pay during each 12-month rolling period).
