Fire stopping and cavity barriers are essential components of a building’s passive fire protection strategy:

  • Fire Stopping: A seal provided to close an imperfection of fit or design tolerance between elements or components, to restrict the spread of fire and smoke.
  • Cavity Barriers: A construction within a cavity, other than a smoke curtain, to perform either of the following functions.
    – Close a cavity to stop smoke or flame entering.
    – Restrict the movement of smoke or flame within a cavity.

By signing this declaration, you confirm that:

  1. All fire stopping and cavity barrier works have been carried out in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and the approved fire test data applicable to the specific systems and materials used.
  2. The design and installation of fire stopping and cavity barrier works have been undertaken by competent persons with appropriate qualifications, training, or accreditation to perform these works.
  3. All necessary records, including installation certificates, as-built drawings, photographic evidence and maintenance requirements, have been compiled and made available to the responsible person and relevant Dutyholders.
  4. All fire stopping and cavity barrier works comply with applicable codes of practice, including but not limited to Approved Document B and any other relevant guidance or statutory requirements.

This declaration confirms the Dutyholder’s responsibility to ensure compliance with the above standards and the integrity of fire stopping systems as part of the fire safety provisions of the building.
